The “Fun O’Clock” Lab Band is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students from the University of North Texas One O’Clock Lab Band program. Since 1947, the One O’Clock Lab Band has remained one of the premier collegiate jazz ensembles in the United States and continues to serve as a flagship institution within jazz education. Born from that tradition, the “Fun O’Clock” Lab Band was created with a simple mission: to present seriously fun music for everyone.
The ensemble is dedicated to creating engaging performances that inspire students, musicians, educators, and music enthusiasts while continuing the spirit of innovation, accessibility to the arts, and high-level ensemble performance associated with the UNT jazz tradition. The group has had the privilege of collaborating with Emmy-nominated trumpeter and vocalist Benny Benack III and has since released the live album “Live in Denton, Texas”.
Beyond performance, the Fun O’Clock Lab Band remains committed to educational outreach and community engagement through outreach within local Dallas-area school districts, providing free educational resources and mentorship opportunities designed to encourage the next generation of musicians.
Although the group may be new to the scene,
the scene is certainly not new to the group.
