Excited to share the release of my original “Caged Rage” recorded by the One O'Clock Lab Band featuring Jonathan Arcangel and Wes Case.
This work explores the emotional arc of suppressed anger, beginning with the subtle throb of a headache and evolving into something more intense, sinister, and ultimately explosive.
This piece also explores genres and styles outside of jazz, specifically one of my favorite bands of all time, Incubus
Thank you to the One O'Clock Lab Band and Alan Baylock for all of their support and hard work. ♥️
A big thank you to Mark Ellington for all of your hard work on the art. 🎨🖌️

We’re crankin’ over “You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To” by my dear friend Benny Benack III. I didn’t know it was possible to admire someone while being incredibly jealous of them all at the same time! You’re a MONSTER Benny! Can’t wait to bring the house down with you in May!♥️💪🏼
Also, bittersweet feelings to hear about Emmet Cohen's Series finale of “Live at Emmet’s place”. It’s such a great chapter of many of our lives and we’re so grateful to all of the musicians that have participated and inspired us to be great! Thank you Emmet Cohen for allowing us to come together to feel like we were in the room together.♥️🎹
I’m also excited to play on my brand new 10mfan Virtuoso7 mouthpiece! I’ve never had a jazz soprano mouthpiece and it’s so much fun! Mark, you’re an amazing friend and your team does amazing work. Thank you so much! 💚
Getting a call at 3:15 AM saying your loved one has been in a fatal car accident and was killed is not something anyone should ever have to experience. I arranged the Lianne La Havas version of Nina Simone’s Baltimore after losing my uncle, Sgt. Gabriel Jaramillo, this summer as a way to manage my overwhelming grief. Hearing it performed last night at the Caruso Competition with the One O’Clock Lab Band was incredibly special.
I was inspired by Baltimore’s message, as my hometown of Albuquerque reflects many of the struggles in its lyrics. I also drew inspiration from the storytelling found in Black American Music through artists like Robert Glasper, Herbie Hancock, and Ambrose Akinmusire. This arrangement blends our two worlds together — two communities, but one people.
Thank you to Shelby Yount for her beautiful vocals, Connor Stanton for his stunning flugelhorn solo, and to everyone in the One O’Clock Lab Band and our director Alan Baylock for their support, musicianship, and friendship. I’m so grateful to share this music with such an incredible group of people.
As always, thank you to my amazing team at UNT Recording Services for their friendship and support as well. ♥️
